What is St. Patrick’s Day?
St. Patrick’s Day commemorates the death of St. Patrick, who is recognized for being the Christian missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century. According to Britannica, he was born in Roman Britain, kidnapped at age 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. After escaping, he returned to the country to evangelize the population.
Although initially a religious holiday, it eventually became a cultural celebration highlighting Irish identity and the country’s cultural heritage.
