Jon Jones (27-1), considered the best fighter in UFC history, will defend his heavyweight belt against Stipe Miocic (20-4), another of the company’s legends, on the main card of UFC 309. Both fighters face each other this Saturday, November 16 (10 pm ET / 7 pm PT - prime time in the USA) in the octagon of Madison Square Garden in New York, United States, in a fight scheduled for five rounds. After a quick and relatively easy first-round submission victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, Jones will return to the UFC steel cage for the highly anticipated fight against Stipe Miocic. That fight was scheduled to take place in November last year. However, Miocic suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the lead-up to the fight, leading to this one-year postponement, meaning he has fought just once in the past four years and nine months.
“My fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 will be my retirement. I’m not interested in facing anyone else. The only one I would do another fight for is Alex Pereira. It would be a mega event, facing him would be amazing. Everyone loves him. Everywhere I go, I hear people saying ‘Chama,’” Bones says.
Stipe Miocic is looking to add his name to the history books by becoming just the second man to hold the belt three times. The Ohio native has faced two dangerous opponents in the past, Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier, a total of five times in his last five outings, and he returns to action against Jon Jones for the first time since losing the title at UFC 260 in March 2021.
“I think I prepare for every fight like it’s my last. I’ve thought about that since my first fight in the UFC. Nobody likes to train and get hit, but I love what I do. So we’ll see, but right now I just care about Jon. When I beat him, it’s going to be amazing. “I’m 100 percent sure it’s going to be a great way to close out my career,” Stipe Miocic said.
UFC 309 prelims begin at 6 pm ET (5 pm CT, 4 pm MT and 3 pm PT) in the United States with streaming on UFC Fight Pass, ESPN+ and Hulu.
