Why Does WhatsApp Stop Supporting Certain Phones?
WhatsApp periodically reviews the operating systems it can support to implement its security updates and features. According to the platform, older devices often lack the technical capacity to meet these new demands.
“Every year, we analyze which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users. It’s also possible that those devices lack the latest security updates or the functionality required to run WhatsApp,” states WhatsApp’s help center.
From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will only be compatible with devices running Android OS 5.0 and later, as well as iPhones with iOS 15.1 and above. This decision excludes a range of models from different brands that will no longer support the app.
