Real Madrid and Barcelona will take part in the tenth final in the history of the Super Cup next Sunday in the Saudi city of Jeddah, the third in a row with a favourable balance for the Whites, who have won seven titles in their direct duels against two for their rival.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team will fight for the title after beating Mallorca in the semi-final by 3-0, while Barcelona beat Athletic (0-2) in the knockout round on Wednesday.

In the overall list of winners of the competition, the Catalan team leads the Madrid team by one title, fourteen against thirteen, so if Ancelotti’s team wins, they would equal the number of trophies.

The first time they faced each other was in 1988, with a victory for Real Madrid, who also won the Super Cup in 1990, 1993, 1997, 2012 and 2017, in two-legged finals. With this format, the victory went to the Blaugrana side in 2011.

Since the competition system was modified in 2020 and expanded to four participants, with the final being a one-match final, the two giants of Spanish football have played two duels.

The 2023 duel fell to the Blaugrana side, with a 3-1 victory, and last year’s duel went to Los Blancos, who took revenge with a resounding 4-1 win.
