In a highly enjoyable match, Arsenal and Tottenham have drawn 2-2 and shared the points after their encounter in the Emirates Stadium, as Gunners and Spurs remain unbeaten in the Premier League’s 2023/24 season. This edition of the North London Derby was as intense a rivalry as there is in the English top flight, but they still haven’t closed the gap with Manchester City at the top of the current standings.
Sadly, Cristian Gabriel Romero had a day to forget. The Argentine center-back was the villain of the match, as he scored an own goal and caused a penalty. Luckily for Arsenal, Bukayo Saka put its team in advantage after scoring a goal by penalty kick.
On the side of the rival team, Heung-min Son shone and in what a way. Tottenham’s South korean striker was the protagonist of the match, as he scored two goals for his squad that allowed the Spurs bring home a good result of its visit to the Gunners field.
The 2-2 draw leaves both teams in the title race. Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal are tied on fourteen points on the Premier League standings, one behind Brighton (who won 3-1 Bournemouth), two behind Liverpool (who defeated West Ham 3-1) and four behind Manchester City (who beat Nottingham 2-0).

Mikel Arteta made a successful transition between Old Firm derbies and the Premier League variety. Now he is intent on stopping Ange Postecoglou doing exactly the same thing. Postecoglou takes his Tottenham side to Arsenal looking to protect an unbeaten sequence of league fixtures – four wins and a draw – since leaving Celtic in June to become Antonio Conte’s permanent successor.
But Arsenal away represents by far the sternest test of his short Spurs spell, especially as Arteta has almost two decades of experience behind him of the differences between high-stakes football on either side of the border.
Arteta spent two seasons in the Rangers midfield between 2002 and 2004 and helped the blue half of Glasgow pip Celtic, then reigning champions under Martin O’Neill, on the final day. On goal difference in fact, with a late Arteta penalty crucial.

English Rob Jones will be the main referee for Arsenal-Tottenham match on matchday 6 of the Premier League 2023-24.
The home team have dominated the north London derby over the past 20 years. Since 2000, Spurs have won just once at Arsenal and have lost five of the last six fixtures at the Emirates with two draws (one in 2019 and the other in 2023).
They have had better fortune at home, winning six of their last nine north London derbies but they did come unstuck at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last season, losing 2-0 in January.

While Arteta hopes Gabriel Martinelli can recover from the hamstring injury, much of the focus will be on who starts between the sticks. David Raya has started both games since the international break in a move that some fear could come full circle in Aaron Ramsdale’s career.
For now Arteta insists he wants to rotate his goalkeepers, and said in his pre-match press conference that he had not decided who would start the derby. Raya might technically be the better goalkeeper and arguably has the cooler head. Certainly, if the latter also misses that team, then this could prove to be a changing of the guard at the Emirates Stadium.
With at least two goals in their five Premier League games so far this season, it would be hard to say that Spurs’ front line is missing anyone so far, but if there is one game where Harry Kane’s absence could be felt it is this one. The England captain, who left for Bayern Munich this summer, is by far the top scorer in the north London derby with 14 goals in just 17 top-flight games against their great rivals.
“We are trying, as a collective, to focus on the road ahead, on the kind of team we want to be. I’m very pleased with the way the lads have approached the task of us being a real attacking threat from all sides,” said the Tottenham manager.
