Despite the massive protests against him that have been taking place in Caracas and other states of the country, Nicolás Maduro is preparing to assume the presidency of Venezuela for the third consecutive time before the deputies of the National Assembly this Friday, January 10, at the Federal Legislative Palace. The 62-year-old president, who assumed the position of head of state in 2013 after the death of Hugo Chávez, faces accusations of fraud after the controversial victory conceived by the National Electoral Council (CNE) at the end of the vote count of the elections of July 28, 2024.
According to the opposition, the winner of the comedians was the diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia with 70% of the votes. However, the electoral body maintains that Maduro won with 52% of the votes. That decision has provoked the rejection of thousands of Venezuelan citizens, above all, because the CNE has not provided evidence to confirm his electoral victory. For her part, opposition leader María Corina Machado called for a national march on January 9 to prevent the inauguration of Hugo Chávez’s heir.
